The Associate in Applied Science in Nursing is designed to prepare students for entry-level positions as registered nurses and to provide continued learning and career mobility in nursing for licensed practical nurses. Applicants must pssess an LPN license when applying to the program. Following successful completion of the LPN to ADN program, graduates are eligible to take the license exam to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN). Each class of nursing students is considered a cohort (group) and courses/schedules are assigned. Graduates of the LPN to ADN Program are qualified to enter the many BSN completion programs available.

Prerequisites and General Education Requirements: 34-40.5 credits
- Current LPN License (20-21.5 credits)
Nursing Requirements: 37 credits
Each course in the program must be passed with a minimum grade of ”B-“.
Total credits: 71 credits
Sequence of classes
Successful completion of each course with a “B-” or higher grade is required in order to continue in the Nursing Program.
Notes:
- Contact hours vary based on the catalog requirements for the LPN certificate over the past 4 catalogs and whether Intermediate Algebra was waived due to testing.
- A current PN license is required.
- All nursing programs are subject to change. Program requirements apply to students accepted into the nursing program in the 2021-2022 academic year.
- Minimum GPA for program entry is 2.0.
- Timeframe on science pre-requisite courses (A&P I & II) accepted is within five years of application to the program.
- NLN Challenge Exam may be used if previous credit has been obtained, but is outside listed parameters in Anatomy and Physiology.
- Pathophysiology may be an alternative to Anatomy and Physiology if outside the listed parameters.
- Prerequisite courses may be repeated one time only to obtain the required grade. This rule applies to transfer courses as well.
- BIO-25000 (Human Anatomy) and BIO-25100 (Human Physiology) are accepted if both were previously taken and a “B-” or better grade was earned in each course or other appropriate course substitution at the discretion of the Director of Nursing.
- Applications are accepted biannually, January 15th through May 15th for fall admission and January 15th through September 15th for winter admission. Students need to meet with their academic advisor to begin the application process.
- An entrance HESI Mobility exam with required score of 850 or higher will be necessary to be accepted into the program. Entrance HESI Mobility exam may be taken three times. If the applicant does not meet the required score on the 3rd attempt, the applicant must wait three years to attempt the exam again to be considered for admission.
- If student has failed out of another nursing program, they may meet with Director of Nursing for consideration of entrance to our program.
- Felony convictions and certain misdemeanor convictions will prohibit admission to the nursing program. For more information, please check with the Health Sciences Office at NursingHS@kirtland.edu.
- Drug testing and background checks of all students will be required prior to final program acceptance.
- Immunization records and a recent physical exam are required for final admission.
- Please note that the Nursing Program is a Full-Time Program that requires attendance in lecture, lab, or simulation Monday through Sunday at any time. Clinical may be assigned during day or evening hours. This will require the ability to maintain a flexible schedule from any applicant. Accommodations for work or personal schedules cannot be guaranteed.
